WHAT IS LASIK EYE SURGERY?

Lasik is the  method most frequently used in refraction-surgery and it is used for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The LASIK technique was first made possible by the Colombia-based Spanish ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer, who in his clinic in Bogotá, Colombia in 1950, developed the first microkeratome. The method was made popular  by World Eye Centers scientific advisor Prof. Dr. Pallikaris in Greece, in 1989.

Prior to your laser treatment, a thin layer called a Flap is made on your cornea with the help of a mechanical knife device called Microceratom. It comprises of an arm that catches the eye and a knife part that cuts.

LASIK is performed in three steps:

The first step is to create this flap of corneal tissue. The second step is remodeling of the cornea underneath the flap with the laser. In the last step, the flap is repositioned.  Your laser treatment takes 4 or 5 minutes for each eye and you do not feel any pain. Upon the completion of your treatment, you leave the laser room without a bandage covering your eyes. LASIK surgery in general results in a much shorter recovery period than PRK eye surgery (Photorefractive Keratectomy).

WHAT IS INTRALASE LASIK EYE SURGERY?

 

In traditional LASIK surgery, surgeons use a tool called a microkeratome knife to create a  flap in the cornea.

In INTRALASE LASIK surgery however, surgeons can use a special computer guided laser, the IntraLase, instead of the microkeratome to create the thin flap that is needed to access the cornea below. After that , the procedure is similar to LASIK, with the excimer laser shaping  the cornea underneath the flap.

Intralase Lasik is a relative new technology for refractive surgery treatment of  myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The flap’s position, diameter and thickness are determined before the operation. Intralase minimises the risks involved during the flap creation stage.. Intralase lasik provides the opportunity to create a customised flap andthereby increase the success rate of the surgery on most patients. Creating a flap with intralase can be carried out according to the patient and the doctors preferences, in order to better suit the individual characteristics of the patients eye.

Intralase LASIK GÖZ CERRAHİSİ NEDİR?

geleneksel LASIK cerrahisinde, cerrahlar bir araç korneada flep oluşturmak için bir mikrokeratom bıçak denilen kullanabilirsiniz.
